The Erl King

Here's a sketch and color comp for a work in progress. It's an illustration for a story about a forest king who turns young women into birds.

Bluebeard

My first go at oils! A painting based off of "The bloody Chamber," a modern re-telling of the bluebeard tale, by Angela Carter. Her whole anthology is the best thing i've read in a long time. I plan to do two more images based off of her wonderfully written, bizarre stories.

CD cover

Apologies to the 3 people who actually follow this blog. I've come down with a mad case of the lazies. Buuut...I've got some projects on the go, so expect some more updates soon (ish!).
I'll kick it off with something I've been working on for the past little while. A CD cover for a local rapper. I would have liked to have painted this one traditionally, but time constraints made me turn to photoshop.

Boring Things

I need to get back into painting....
In the meantime, here's some color studies and life drawings! I've noticed a definite trend of red/blue color schemes in my work, and a friend recommended I do some quick film studies to work out of it. The top ones are from Tarsem Sigh's "The Cell" and the bottom are from Luc Besson's "Leon". I'd recommend using a large brush and working quickly, spending no more than an hour per panel. Mine are totally over-rendered :(
